Program description

This free 33-week certificate program helps women and non-binary individuals gain hands-on carpentry skills and exposure to residential plumbing and HVAC installations. Participants develop essential employment skills such as workplace safety, job search strategies, and workplace communication

The program includes an 8-week work placement opportunity, and program graduates may qualify for an exemption from Level 1 of the in-school training for the 403A General Carpenter apprenticeship

Estimated tuition & fees:

Tuition-free; funded by the Government of Ontario for eligible applicants

Application process

• Attend an in-person information session (details below)
• Complete a Conestoga College application form and an assessment in Mathematics, Mechanical Reasoning, and English
• Applicants who complete the required tests may be invited to an interview
• Admission decisions are based on a combination of test results and the interview

Eligibility:

• Women living on low income
• OSSD (Gr. 12) or equivalent (GED/CAEC, or assessed international education equivalent)
• Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or Convention Refugee
• Resident of Ontario and legally able to work in Ontario
• 16 years of age or older
• Meet income eligibility criteria (demonstrate financial need based on Statistics Canada LICO table)
• Desire to start a career in the skilled trades and be ready to work
